Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
Pleasurable food education teaches Australian children positive food habits through fun, hands-on learning. Children learn to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal, delicious food. Our Lady of Grace School joined the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program in 2013.
Year 4 children have one lesson a week in gardening and also rotate through the kitchen, learning food preparation skills. The students learn the joy of growing and cooking fresh produce. Pleasurable food education is about children experiencing the joy of digging in the garden, picking fresh veggies, smelling and tasting the food they prepare, and sharing the experience with their classmates and helpers.
The program is fully integrated into the Our Lady of Grace curriculum as it offers infinite possibilities to reinforce literacy, numeracy, science, cultural studies and all aspects of environmental sustainability. Kitchen Garden Foundation
