The pastoral care of our students lies at the heart of all that the school does. It is demonstrated through school policies such as the Discipline Policy which encourages the development of self-discipline and a close working relationship between school and home, and our Bullying Policy which is backed up by in-class programs such as Friendly Schools and ‘You Can Do It’.

Widespread, positive reinforcement is evident in the Hero Award and Merit Awards.

Student leadership and involvement in the school and the wider community is developed through our Student Ministries, which involve all Year Six students.

The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) an international, student-centred program delivered by volunteers working on  a one-to-one basis with students needing help, support, confidence building or simply someone to talk to is a feature of the school’s pastoral care program. Sr Irene coordinates this program at OLG.

Rainbows, a program for students suffering from grief and /or loss, is offered each term.

The school has a qualified Counsellor on staff as well as a School Chaplain. Both roles are filled by Sr Joseph.

An Outreach Committee, consisting of staff and parents, work to look after those families in the school community in need of support.

Parent involvement in the life of OLG is widespread. There are many classroom rosters, parents are integral to the running of the canteen, the LAP program, the library group and busy bees.

The on-going professional development of staff and the pedagogical approach taken to catering to individual needs are further evidence of a caring school community.
